In 1886, Carl-August Seibel founded one of the first shoe factories in Hauenstein, a small village in the Palatinate region in Germany, with even today only 5,000 inhabitants. He started producing shoes and sandals in his house.

In 1907 a new, big factory was built, which still produces shoes today. In the 1920's and 1930's business was going up and down between the two world wars. After a period of regulated production during World War II, in the 1950's and 1960's, the upturn with new forms and styles, as well as extension of production took place in the third generation under Josef Seibel.

In the early 1970's the recession of the German shoe industry started, but was successfully averted by Josef Seibel with renewed energy and new ideas.

Josef Seibel North America Inc. opened its doors in August 1997. As the exclusive importer/distributor in the U.S., Canada and South America.

Josef Seibel shoes became worldwide known as: The European Comfort Shoe. Only top grade and selected leathers are used traditionally and mainly handmade.

The massaging footbed system is made of a mossrubber insole with nubs. Josef Seibel also uses a flexible polyurethane outsole for great shock absorption.
